Dave Dean designed the Daphne chip. He was a technician without a degree and had never designed a chip before. Fortunately Jay Miner was there to mentor him. Prior to Amiga, he worked at BTI Computer.

Dave would leave Amiga after finishing work on Daphne. Akio Tanaka would make further improvements to the chip, which then became known as Denise.
