Dave Dean designed the [[Daphne]] chip. He was a technician without a degree and had never designed a chip before. Fortunately [[Jay Miner]] was there to mentor him. Prior to Amiga, he worked at BTI Computer.

Dave would leave Amiga after finishing work on [[Daphne]]. Akio Tanaka would make further improvements to the chip, which then became known as [[Denise]].
